Journey Of Your Granite

Granit•ops supplies granite and marble from many countries throughout the world, offering a wide range of colour and individual characteristics to form natural stone surfaces unique to their owner.

From Scandinavia to the Americas, South Africa to india, stone is quarried and polished to provide the basis of our selection of 53 different granites and marbles.

150 tonne blocks of stone are extracted from the quarry side, cut into smaller blocks and transported to the local processing plant. Here block cutting saws, which look rather like cheese slicers, cut their large blocks into individual slices called scants, a process which can take several days.

From the saws the scants are moved into the polishing lines where a series of abrasive polishing heads convert the rough, sawn, face of the stone into the highly polished, mirror-like finish pictured here. This careful polishing brings out the full natural colour of the stone and shows to its best the beauty of the unique patterning inherent in each stone.

Once polished, the scants are transported across the world to our manufacturing plant in Wiltshire where, using traditional skills as well as state of the art CNC equipment they are cut, shaped and polished to the design required to suit your home.

The journey this stone has made from the quarry has been a long one, and it has taken many thousands of years to form it into the beautiful and unique product, which will enhance your home and be admired by all.
